Mark your calendars for December 10th and 11th, as esteemed members from all corners of the country will convene at the Delta Ottawa City Centre for cutting-edge discussions on privacy and access to information law.
Preparations are underway, and this year’s agenda will feature our highly sought-after plenary sessions of International, Canadian and Provincial Updates as well as breakout sessions on today’s most pressing issues in privacy and access law. Advocacy Highlights
The Section has been busy participating in various advocacy initiatives including the following contributions:
Bill S-5 – The Connected Care for Canadians Act (April 15, 2026)
The CBA Sections support Bill S-5’s goal of improving health data sharing but emphasize that it must align clearly with existing privacy laws. They call for clearer definitions, stronger safeguards, and greater certainty on interoperability, enforcement, and accountability.
Consultation on OPC Guidance Processes (March 13, 2026)
The CBA comments on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s guidance processes.
Bill C-15 – Budget 2025 Implementation Act, No. 1 (February 24, 2026)
The CBA comments on Bill C-15, particularly regarding proposed amendments contained in Part 5 Division 5 related to the Red Tape Reduction Act, proposed amendments to the Competition Act relating to paragraph 74.01(1)(b.2) and the portion of Bill C-15 that would add a new Division 1.2 to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
CBA Privacy and Access Law Section Student Essay Contest
The CBA Privacy and Access Law Section holds an annual Law Student Essay Contest with the objectives of promoting interest in Privacy and Access Law topics in Canadian law schools and participation by Canadian law students in the Privacy and Access Law Section.
The winner of the 2026 essay contest will be revealed at the Privacy and Access Law Conference and receives complementary registration to the event.
