Biography
Antoine L. Collins has practiced law in the United States and Canada over the past 19 years. After graduating in 2002 from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, his career began as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Baltimore City’s States Attorney’s Office. There, he prosecuted cases ranging from minor theft to felony child abuse and domestic violence. Subsequently, Antoine joined one of Baltimore’s top law firms, defending Workers’ Compensation cases. After moving to Canada, he was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011, thereafter, he ran a progressive and dynamic solo transactional practice focusing on Wills and Estates and Real Estate law. He is currently a Coordinating Member (Adjudicator/Manager) with the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. As an Adjudicator, he is charged with making well-reasoned decisions of applicants claiming refugee protection in Canada. Additionally, Antoine is actively involved in the Ontario legal community. He sits as a Trustee for the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Foundation acting as Chair for the Foundations Chief Justice Fellowship in Legal Ethics and Professionalism Studies. Member of OBA's Professional Development Committee, past-Co-Chair of the OBA’s Institute, as well as past-member of the Governance and Past-Chair of the Equality Committees of the OBA. As President of the Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) Antoine is committed to legal excellence and reinvesting in the community through a multitude of events that promote academic and professional excellence and the advancement of issues of equality and diversity among the bar and judiciary. He is a Trustee for the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA), and a volunteer for Pro Bono Ontario. Antoine also served as Adjunct Professor at Algonquin College, where he taught Evidence Law. Outside of his legal career, Antoine has an extensive musical theatre resume along with independently releasing two full length jazz albums. His 2015 debut LP, Somewhere Along The Way, was recorded in Tel Aviv, Israel and features soulful, R&B-inspired takes on traditional standards. His 2018 follow up album “Nature Boy, The Music of Nat King Cole”, celebrates the legacy of a global cultural icon who left an indelible mark on jazz and popular song. Recreational cycling also helps Antoine ensure a healthy work-life balance. Biography
Arghavan Gerami is the Founder and Senior Counsel at Gerami Law Professional Corporation (‘PC’), a full-service immigration law firm in Ottawa, Ontario. She completed her Juris Doctor and Master of Laws at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2007. Ms. Gerami also completed a Master of Arts at the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts at York University, graduating first in her class. Since founding Gerami Law PC, in 2011 Ms. Gerami has focused her practice on immigration and refugee litigation, and successfully represented numerous clients before the Federal and provincial Courts, as well as the various divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board. Before founding Gerami Law, Ms. Gerami worked at the Ministry of Attorney General and the Department of Justice. She also had the privilege of serving the Honourable Mr. Justice M. Evans at the Federal Court of Appeal on immigration and administrative law appeals. Ms. Gerami contributes to the Immigration Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In 2017-2018 Ms. Gerami served on the Organizing Committee of the 2018 CBA Immigration Law Conference. I am a lawyer, investigator and mediator, with a unique combination of legal expertise and extensive hands-on human resources management and labour relations experience. I am also a Chartered Professional in Human Resources. Prior to being called to the British Columbia Bar, I was a Human Resources Manager at the University of British Columbia and Labour Relations Advisor to Vancouver Community College. I founded Integritas Workplace Law in 2014 after practicing for several years with "BigLaw", in downtown Vancouver. My practice focuses on all aspects of employment and labour law including advising on employment and labour issues arising in the context of business transactions. I have significant expertise in conducting workplace investigations, developing human resources policies, resolving workplace conflicts, bullying and harassment prevention, disability, accommodation and human rights issues, and workplace restructuring. I also provide general human resources support, coaching and training, and workplace investigation services to employers. I am qualified mediator and a member of the ADR Institute of BC and the ADR Institute of Canada. I am a regular speaker and presenter on workplace law topics at CLEs and other conferences and a firm believer in giving back to the community through volunteering with the CBA both nationally and provincially as well as through mentoring. Biography
Kamaljit Kaur Lehal received her law degree in 1989 from the University of British Columbia and was called to the bar in 1990. She opened her own law firm in 1992, Lehal Law Corporation, and her practice is focused, exclusively, on immigration law. She has been, actively, involved in policy reform and advocacy for victims of intimate partner violence, especially immigrant women without status or precarious status. Ms. Lehal is both a certified civil and family mediator. She is a Qualified Arbitrator. Ms. Lehal was an appointed member of the Civil Resolution Tribunal in BC from 2015 to March 2019. She was an appointed member of the BC Review Board from 1998 to 2010 serving in the capacity of Alternate Chair. She is active in the CBA on various committees. She is the recipient of the 2019 Equity and Diversity Award presented by the CBA BC Branch. Angeline was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2007. Prior to incorporating A.
