Canada Post is seeking an experienced lawyer with strong litigation, analytical and interpersonal skills to join a collegial team of talented professionals.
Senior Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment provides strategic direction and ensures the provision of quality legal services in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Senior Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment Law.
- Represent Canada Post in all forms of labour and employment law litigation (with a focus on defending grievances concerning the terminations of employment).
- Provide proactive, practical and strategic legal advice to management to solve business problems and reduce legal risk.
- Mentor Counsel and Paralegals on the Legal Affairs team.
- Manage external counsel in civil litigation and administrative law matters, to ensure quality and value.
- Conduct research and prepare legal opinions on various legal issues.
Qualifications
Education
- Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with Barreau du Québec.
Experience
- Strong communication skills, proven leadership and mentorship capabilities, and the ability to work independently; and
- Motivation, aptitude as a self-starter, and the ability to “hit the ground running” in the new position.
- Minimum five years' experience as principal counsel in labour law litigation, with a particular focus on grievance arbitration.
Other Candidate Requirements
- Strong oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
- Travel, within the province of Quebec.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
