Description
A board member at Flemingdon Health Centre (FHC) is a volunteer governance role responsible for providing strategic oversight, ensuring organizational accountability, and advancing FHC's mission to deliver equitable, community-driven health services.
Board Directors contribute their expertise, lived experience, and leadership to support sound governance, strategic direction, and organizational sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Governance & oversight
- Provide oversight of organizational performance, risk, and compliance
- Ensure adherence to governance policies and regulatory requirements
- Strategic leadership
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of FHC's strategic plan
- Support organizational priorities aligned with health equity and community needs
- Financial stewardship
- Review and approve budgets, financial statements, and key investments
- Ensure responsible use of resources and long-term sustainability
- Committee participation
- Serve on Board committees (e.g., Governance, Finance, Nominating) as needed
- Contribute subject matter expertise to Board deliberations
- Community representation
- Act as an ambassador for FHC within the community
- Support relationships with stakeholders, partners, and funders
Qualifications & experience
FHC is seeking individuals with one or more of the following:
- Legal expertise (priority)
- Human Resources
- Accounting / Finance
- Government Relations
- Fundraising, Corporate Relations, or Capital Development
Additional assets:
- Experience with governance and board-level decision-making
- Knowledge of community health, social services, or health equity
- Understanding of diverse communities served by FHC
