Description

Associate lawyer – labour law

Location: Regina, SK
Firm: Gerrand Rath Johnson LLP

Gerrand Rath Johnson LLP is a medium-sized law firm in Regina, SK with a vibrant history dating back over 100 years. We are a full-service law firm servicing individual and institutional clients in the Regina area and throughout Saskatchewan.

Regina is an affordable, livable, mid-sized city that offers a host of amenities and benefits without a lot of big city headaches, and we all gladly call it home.

In addition to other practice areas, GRJ has a significant working group of lawyers who represent individual workers and unions, primarily in Saskatchewan. We work extensively with private and public sector unions, from large to small, in all areas and (virtually) all sectors of the province, including construction.

As part of this practice, we regularly advise unions on internal matters, including in policy development, advise and represent unions with respect to grievances and arbitrations, represent unions at the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board on all kinds of matters, as well as in court on Judicial Reviews or other civil litigation in which our clients might be involved.

We are currently the biggest group of lawyers in Saskatchewan doing this type of work on the union/worker-side.

We are also growing and need another lawyer to be part of our labour practice. The day-to-day work in this role can be expected to include dealing with clients, drafting, legal research and writing, as well as hearing and advocacy work.

We offer a challenging, dynamic, and team-oriented work environment. An ideal candidate will have 2-10 years of related experience, not necessarily focused on labour law but including the conduct of trials, arbitrations and/or tribunal hearings, or other administrative law experience. An applicant with a strong interest in oral advocacy and hearing work is preferred. Strong writing skills are also an asset.

In addition, our firm represents individuals in employment and wrongful dismissal matters, human rights complaints, professional regulation matters, and many other areas. Subject to interest, this position will also offer opportunity to participate in files and to develop a practice representing individual workers and professionals in Saskatchewan.

GRJ offers a salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, and anticipates a starting salary to be negotiated, commensurate with experience. GRJ also offers a generous bonus system.

Please submit your expression of interest confidentially to the attention of Peter Loewen at operationsmanager@grj.ca.
