Description

We are looking for an Associate Lawyer to join a high performing criminal defence practice in London, ON. This is a Full Time, Permanent role with the basis to assume responsibility for active files. This role is ideal for a Lawyer that thrives in a fast paced environment, is eager to build a strong criminal defence career and has the drive to deliver results.

The Associate will handle a mix of legal aid and private retainer files, contribute to firm-wide caseload management, and have opportunities to build their own book of business over time. To succeed in this role, excellent client communication skills are required and confidence in a courtroom presence. This position reports directly to the owner.

Salary per annum - $80,000 to $110,000 + Bonus and a total compensation package

Responsibilities:

  • Manage personal caseloads of active criminal matters
  • Represent clients in court across multiple jurisdictions in Southwestern Ontario
  • Handle legal aid and private retainer files, including impaired driving, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other criminal offences
  • Conduct legal research, draft materials, prepare submissions, and assist with trial preparation
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and responsiveness
  • Contribute billable hours to firm files and collaborate on complex matters
  • Participate in business development efforts and work toward building client base

What we are looking for:

  • Licensed Lawyer in Ontario (LSO)
  • Strong interest in criminal defence and courtroom advocacy
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage high-volume caseloads and work independently
  • Comfortable handling explicit criminal content (sexual assault, domestic violence, etc.)
  • Willingness to work on a variety of cases and files
  • Strong MS Office skills such as Excel, Word, Outlook Email
  • Valid drivers license with the ability to travel as needed and to courts in other jurisdictions
  • Ability to work in a pet friendly environment
