On February 20, the Nova Scotia Women Lawyers Forum hosted a workshop called “Keeping Yourself Balanced on the Scales of Justice...” The first of its kind by the Women Lawyers Forum, the workshop involved yoga classes led by Jolene d’Entremont of Yoga On Site, an intro to meditation class led by former lawyer Patricia Ullman Hayward, and a presentation on food, nutrition and stress led by Wendy McCallum of Simple Balance, also a former lawyer.
The workshop saw over 20 lawyers educated on the reality of stress and its impact on our bodies and empowered with simple ways to combat the high levels of cortisol and adrenaline experienced by women lawyers, partners, mothers, sisters, care-givers, etc.
All involved enjoyed taking off the work suit and getting out of the office chair to sit on a meditation cushion in exercise gear while taking active steps to keep mental and physical health primed for a continued career in the legal world.
