A warm greeting to all members of our Section. I am honoured to serve as your Chair for the 2025-2026 year. We have been working hard to increase member outreach and involvement. Here are some of our accomplishments this term:
Advocacy:
- At the CBA Annual General Meeting in February 2026, our Resolution “Harmonizing Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Across Canada” passed. We hope to encourage provinces to enact similar legislation with respect to fiduciary access to digital assets.
- We have been an active voice in advocacy regarding Bill C-15, S-5, and Criminal Code bills C-14 and C-16. A special thank you to Yasmin Khaliq for supporting and promoting our section with this important advocacy work.
- On June 3, 2026, we will host our annual meeting with the Canadian Banker’s Association. All are welcomed to join via Zoom.
Professional Development:
- We hosted a webinar, Why You Should Consider a Career in Wills, Estates and Trusts, on March 19, 2026. If you missed it, you can watch the recording here (available only in English)
- Along with the Real Estate Section, we are chairing a program: Owning Property in Mexico: Estate Planning, Estate Administration and Real Property Issues, on May 12th, 2026 from 12:00-1:00 PM Eastern. Click here to Register (available only in English).
- Watch out for a Fall program with the Charity Law Section!
