Save the date for our Admin, Labour and Employment Law 2026 Conference

February 27, 2026

We are thrilled to announce that the 2026 Annual CBA Administrative Law, and Labour and Employment Law Conference will be returning the historic Chateau Laurier on Friday November 20, 2026 and Saturday November 21, 2026 in Ottawa ON. Please mark your calendars and come out and join us for two days of discussion and reflection on developments in the area of administrative law, and valuable networking opportunities with lawyers from across the country.

You can also find here the article by Andrea Daly Algorithms, Advocacy, and the Rule of Law for a summary of all the panels and discussions that took place during the 2025 CBA Administrative and Labour and Employment conference.

The CBA Administrative Law section is also pleased to host a webinar on Free Speech and Professional Regulation on June 16th at 12:00pm ET.

This webinar will explore the current national landscape on the issue of restrictions on free speech in the context of professional regulation. With recent legislation passed (but not yet in effect) in Alberta, which once in force with place restrictions on professional regulators’ authority to restrict or regulate the speech of professionals, this is a topical issue. By contrast, other provinces show trends in the opposite direction, with tribunal and court decisions upholding the regulator’s authority and jurisdiction to regulate speech on current issues including vaccines, COVID-19, and transgender and non-binary rights. This developing dichotomy raises several interesting legal issues, in particular for professions that are subject to federal or provincial labour mobility legislation.
