Biography
I am a General Counsel with the Department of Justice Canada, International Assistance Group, where I have worked since 2009, practicing international criminal law and administrative law. Specifically my areas of practice are extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. I hold degrees in both civil and common law from the University of Ottawa and have been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2003. I practiced criminal law as a member of the defence bar in Ottawa from 2003 to 2006. In 2007, I had the opportunity to Clerk for the Supreme Court of Barbados for one year and then work as a research fellow at the University of the West Indies, before returning to Ottawa in 2008 to resume my practice. In addition to my legal career, I am a part-time professor at Algonquin College in the paralegal program - currently teaching Criminal / Summary Conviction Procedure. I also serve as the Vice-Chair of the Law Society of Ontario’s Equity Advisory Group, the Secretary of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) and the Vice-President of the Ottawa Chapter of that same organization.
