1. Early Renewal and Early Joiner Promotional Offers Overview
The Early Renewal Offer (the “Early Renewal Offer”) encourages current members of The Canadian Bar Association (the "CBA") in the Active (Regular), Special, and Judicial member categories - capturing all active members except Law Students & Honorary membership categories (“eligible members”) to renew their membership ahead of the 2026/2027 annual membership fee deadline of August 31, 2026. Eligible members who successfully renew their membership within the Campaign Period (set out below) will receive complimentary access to the recorded Spring 2025 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: Essential Skills for Effective Case Preparation) and Fall 2025 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: Corporate Finance in Practice: Skills for Canadian Business Lawyers), provided all applicable conditions of these terms and conditions are met. Each eligible member who renews during the Campaign Period also receives an opportunity to participate in the Member-Get-Member referral campaign described below.
The Early Joiner Offer (the “Early Joiner Offer”) encourages eligible non-members of The Canadian Bar Association to join the CBA within the Campaign Period. Eligible individuals who successfully join the CBA in the Active (Regular), Special, and Judicial member categories - capturing all active members except Law Students & Honorary membership categories during the Campaign Period will receive complimentary access to the recorded Spring 2025 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: Essential Skills for Effective Case Preparation) and Fall 2025 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: Corporate Finance in Practice: Skills for Canadian Business Lawyers), and will access 2025/2026 CBA membership benefits from the date of registration to the end of the Campaign Period at no additional cost, provided all applicable conditions of these terms and conditions are met. The Early Renewal Offer and the Early Joiner Offer are collectively referred to herein as the “Offers.”
2. Member-Get-Member Campaign Overview
The Member-Get-Member Campaign (the “Campaign”) is a promotional offer in the form of PD Discount (further detailed below) available to: (i) current eligible members of the CBA who successfully refer a personal contact, including a friend, family member, or colleague (a “Friend”), to join the CBA during the Campaign Period; and (ii) Friends who meet the eligibility criteria and successfully complete the qualifying actions set out below, all in accordance with these terms and conditions. The Campaign runs from June 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026 (the “Campaign Period”).
Eligible members who successfully refer new Friends during the Campaign Period are eligible to receive a 15% promotional discount off the full registration price of the recorded Spring 2026 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: The Business-Savvy Litigator: Strategic Judgment, Financial Fluency, and AI-Driven Advantage (Litigation Stream)) and the Fall 2026 Skilled Lawyers Series (The Canadian Bar Association: Modern Corporate Lawyering: Practical Skills for Clarity, Efficiency, and Impact (Corporate Stream) (the “PD Discount”) in recognition of their referral. Only referrals submitted and completed during the Campaign Period are eligible for the PD Discount, in addition to the Offer benefits described above. The PD Discount will be issued to eligible referring members and eligible referred Friends upon the successful completion of a qualifying referral under this Campaign, delivered in the form of a personal-use promotional coupon code issued by the CBA. The PD Discount can be applied, at the member’s option, to the purchase of the Spring 2026 Skilled Lawyers Series and Fall 2026 Skilled Lawyers Series or to the purchase of individual Modules within each Series. Promotional discount will be applied before taxes.
Québec consumer warranty and mandatory protections. For participants resident of Québec who are “consumers” within the meaning of the Consumer Protection Act (Québec), nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes, or waives any legal warranty or other mandatory rights or remedies, including those provided under the Consumer Protection Act (Québec) and the Civil Code of Québec.
3. Eligibility for Renewing and Referring Members
To participate in the Early Renewal Offer, a member must be an Active (Regular), Special or Judicial member of the CBA, capturing all active members except Law Students & Honorary membership categories.
To be a referrer for the purposes of this Campaign, the renewing member must:
- Be an eligible member in good standing of the CBA at the time the referral is made; and
- Remain an eligible member at the time the PD Discount is issued. An AMember whose membership has lapsed or is under suspension is not eligible to participate.
By submitting a referral, the Referring member represents and warrants that they have an existing personal or family relationship with the referred Friend, and have obtained their consent to share the individual’s personal information with the CBA for the purposes of this Campaign and to receive a one-time electronic communication from the CBA regarding membership and Campaign benefits, in compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (“CASL”).
4. Eligibility for Referred Friends
To qualify as a valid referral, the referred Friend must:
- Be new to the CBA, or have not held membership within the previous 24 months;
- Submit a complete Active (Regular),Special, or Judicial membership application (Law Students & Honorary membership category applicationsexcluded) during the Campaign Period;
- Pay the applicable membership dues (Fees & Benefits | Canadian Bar Association) and enroll in the Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) program (Monthly Payment by Direct Debit or Annual Payment by Direct Debit or Credit Card); and
- Ensure that all information provided during the referral and membership application process is accurate and complete.
5. Referral Process
To qualify for the Campaign:
- The eligible referring member must complete the referral form following renewal of their 2026/2027 membership during the Campaign Period.
- Referrals cannot be applied retroactively after an application has been submitted.
- A referring member may submit multiple referrals during the Campaign Period. However, only one (1) PD Discount will be awarded to the referring member regardless of the number of successful referrals. If the referred Friend has already received a referral coupon code from another member, the referring member will not be eligible for a PD Discount.
- Each referred Friend may only receive one (1) PD Discount regardless of the number of member referrals received.
- Promotional coupon codes issued under this Campaign are unique to each member, are non-transferable, and may not be sold, bartered, or distributed through bulk or commercial channels.
- The CBA reserves the right to verify the validity of all referrals before awarding PD Discounts or other benefits under the Campaign and Offers.
A referral is considered successful when: (i) the referred Friend’s membership application is approved; and (ii) Active (Regular) membership dues are paid via the Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) program (Monthly Payment by Direct Debit, or Annual Payment by Direct Debit or Credit Card). The PD Discount coupon will be issued within four (4) weeks of confirmation of the new member’s enrollment.
6. PD Discount Conditions
PD Discounts and other benefits awarded through the Campaign and Offers:
- Must be applied or used within the current membership year (2026/2027) and no later than August 31, 2027 (the “Coupon Expiry Date”). Expired promotional coupon codes will not be honoured, reissued, or extended.
- Cannot be redeemed for cash or cash equivalents.
- Cannot be transferred to another member.
- Cannot be combined with any other CBA promotional offer, discount, or coupon, unless expressly stated otherwise. Offer conditions are at the discretion of the CBA and subject to change.
- Are valid for personal use only.
7. Disqualification and Fraud
The CBA reserves the right to:
- Disqualify referrals that do not meet the eligibility criteria, are inconsistent with the spirit of the Campaign and Offers or these Terms and Conditions, or appear fraudulent, including any referrals that appear to have been obtained without the referred Friend’s consent as required under these Terms and Conditions, or generated through automated, commercial, or bulk referral methods. In the event of disqualification or if a referred membership is cancelled, the disqualified individual or referred member (as applicable) forfeits all rights to any PD Discount, benefits, or other entitlements under this Campaign and the Offers.
- Revoke, limit, or suspend the Campaign and any Offers for any person who appears to be manipulating or abusing the Campaign, or is engaged in any suspicious/fraudulent activity.
8. Amendments and Campaign Modifications
To the fullest extent permitted by and subject to applicable law, the CBA may modify, amend, limit, suspend, or terminate the Campaign and/or the Offers, in whole or in part, at any time with prior written notice. Any amendments to these Terms and Conditions will be communicated through official CBA channels, including by posting an updated version on the CBA website, and will apply prospectively from the effective time stated in the updated version, and will not adversely affect benefits already validly earned prior to the effective time of the change, except as required to prevent fraud, abuse, or unlawful activity. Continued participation in the Campaign after the effective time of an amendment constitutes acceptance of such an amendment, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
The CBA further reserves the right to adjust any dates, timeframes, or other Campaign or Offer mechanics set out in these Terms and Conditions to the extent reasonably necessary to address technical, administrative, legal, or other issues that affect the proper administration of the Campaign or Offers, in each case subject to applicable law.
9. Privacy and Data Collection
Personal information collected through this Campaign will be collected, used, and disclosed for the purposes of administering the Campaign and the Offers, including validating eligibility, issuing PD Discounts and other benefits, and communicating with participants about the Campaign, in accordance with the CBA’s Privacy Policy (Privacy Policy | Canadian Bar Association). Referred Friends may be contacted by the CBA for the purpose of the Campaign referral. Referred Friends will not receive further marketing communications from the CBA unless they have specifically opted in to receive such communications. By participating in the Campaign, each participant acknowledges that they have reviewed and understand the CBA’s Privacy Policy and consent to the practices described therein.
10. Acceptance of Terms
Participation in the Campaign constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. The CBA recommends that participants review these Terms and Conditions in full prior to participating.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by and subject to applicable law, the CBA shall not be liable to any individual or third party for any indirect, incidental, consequential, exemplary, or special damages arising out of or in connection with participation in this Campaign, any Offers, or the awarding or use of any PD Discounts (including loss of profits, loss of opportunity, or other commercial or economic loss), whether based in contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory of liability. For greater certainty, nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability to the extent such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable laws.
12. General
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The CBA's failure to enforce any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between participants and the CBA with respect to the Campaign and supersede all prior communications, representations, or agreements relating thereto.
