Description

This opportunity may be an excellent fit for a lawyer who is considering leaving fee earning for work-life balance and is considering an in-house role at a reputable international law firm.

The unique in-house opportunity

An exciting business services role within the Office of the General Counsel of Dentons Canada, headed by Rob Roth: Rob Roth's profile

We are seeking talented lawyers who are looking to move away from client-facing / billing roles to join our growing team of conflicts lawyers. The work is intellectually rigorous and stimulating, fast paced, and offers stable working hours (generally 0900-1700 with some occasional after hours work if urgent). This is a 100% remote role so you can work from anywhere in Canada. Alternatively, you may choose to spend time at a Dentons Canada office if you are based nearby.

All Canada time zones will be considered.

What we do

Conflicts lawyers perform a critical risk role for the Firm. We assess, amongst other things, whether new mandates present any legal or commercial conflicts, and facilitate appropriate risk based solutions. We also play a key role in the Firm’s participation in high-profile Requests for Proposals, and we review conflicts provisions of client terms. We are an integral part of the Firm’s new business strategy and we protect it, and our clients, from undue risk. This requires an excellent educational background, a high-level understanding of a variety of practice areas, and a commercially astute, sophisticated approach. This role is unique in that there is frequent interaction with senior partners in Canada and globally, the General Counsel, and other stakeholders in the Firm, without the demands of billing and fee earner hours. We value talent and there are ample growth opportunities for the right person.

You do not need any prior conflicts experience, rather you will be joining a pioneering team consisting of other ex fee earners. Training in the applicable Canadian professional rules will be provided.

The salary range is $125,000 -145,000 per year depending on interview performance, aptitude and location, with the possibility of a signing-on bonus. This role offers a significantly improved work-life balance in contrast to a fee-earning role.
