Call for an At Large Board Director
The Authority’s Board of Directors (the Board) is comprised of seasoned business professionals from Ottawa-Gatineau. Their diverse backgrounds and extensive expertise ensure strong governance and strategic direction for the Authority. Collaborating closely with Senior Management, the Board plays a vital role in shaping YOW’s future and its impact on Canada’s Capital Region.
The Board consists of 14 members comprised of professionals from the world of aviation and business. These individuals are nominated by various Selecting Bodies from organizations in the Region and all levels of government. Nominations are made by the Minister of Transport, the Government of Ontario, the City of Ottawa, the City of Gatineau, the Ottawa Board of Trade, Ottawa Tourism, the Chambre de commerce de Gatineau, Invest Ottawa, and in the case of At Large Directors, by the Governance Committee.
This call for Board Directors is occurring due to the routine expiration of the term of a current At Large Director. Individuals interested in this position must have demonstrable subject matter expertise in one or a combination of the following areas: law, accounting, digital strategy/transformation, major capital project management and aviation industry management.
An At Large Director may serve for a maximum term of five years.
As a qualified nominee, you possess a degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study, or an acceptable combination of equivalent education, job-related training or experience. You have previous experience serving as a member of a board of directors for a significant public or private sector organization. The Authority will benefit from your strategic thinking, strong business skills, sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and integrity. You are highly respected for your inquisitive nature, analytical skills, ability to lead change and to anticipate emerging issues. You are dedicated, highly professional and always prepared and passionate about the community. A certificate from the Institute of Corporate Directors or equivalent would be an asset, as would proficiency in both official languages.
While skills remain the most important consideration for board appointment, the Board has enacted a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy and, in order to ensure that the Board is representative of the community we serve, we will strongly consider candidates who are women, Indigenous persons or members of other equity deserving groups.
The Board meets five times per year for regular meetings, with occasional ad hoc meetings called for specific purposes. Committees have scheduled meetings a day prior to regular meeting dates, with ad hoc meetings called as necessary. The Authority also holds an annual general meeting in April and an annual public meeting in May.
