With thanks to the generosity of Section members, the CBA Immigration Law Section created the Founders’ Award in 2013 in honour of the Founding Members of our Section in 1982-83. The award recognizes an exceptional law student or junior lawyer annually. The CBA Immigration Law Section is proud to announce that the 2020 winner of the Founders’ Award is Will Tao.
Will is an extremely dedicated volunteer both within and outside of the CBA, and his application embodied the values and qualities this award is intended to celebrate. We would also like to highlight Will’s incredible generosity in asking the Section to donate $500 to the Urban Native Youth Association in Vancouver in lieu of the original award prize. Will’s paper “Re-Centering the Resilience and Resistance of Migrant Women of Colour: Exploring the Potential of Intersectionality and Indigenous Approaches to Immigration Appeals“ is available as part of the special 3-day online program, 20:20 A Vision for Lawyer Expertise During a Pandemic and Beyond. If you were unable to attend live, register today and you will receive on-demand recordings for all webcasts when they become available.
