A number of national CBA Sections and Forums are putting out the call for nominees for a number of upcoming awards. Do you know someone who fits one of these bills?

Following up on the National Women Lawyers Forum’s 2016 #WriteYourWrong campaign, a number of CBA Sections and Forums collaborated to present a podcast called Not Just a Bystander, which was launched on International Women’s Day, March 8.

The CCCA conference in Toronto in April and IP Day in Ottawa in May are just two of the many conferences taking place between now and the end of June.

Canadian law school graduates, articling students, lawyers and academics are invited to submit their essays on military law topics to the Sword and Scale Open Essay Competition.

The CBA’s latest series of professional development webinars has begun, this one is aimed at aimed at helping lawyers up their game and enhancing access to justice at the same time.

The 2017 edition of the book Global Corruption: Law, Theory and Practice is now available online. The first of its kind when it was first published in 2015, the course book on anti-corruption was written by University of Victoria law professor Gerry Ferguson. CBA’s Anti-Corruption Team sponsors the book.

Two new toolkits are coming this spring to help CBA members improve their practice. The first, presented by the CBA National Criminal Law Section, walks lawyers through the “collateral consequences” of a criminal charge and/or sentence for their clients. The second is a primer on children’s rights from the Children’s Law Committee.

CBA National President René Basque visited Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories in February, and partook of some of the local entertainments while he was there. That included a day of ice-fishing on Great Slave Lake with members of the NWT executive and council.

On March 8, International Women’s Day, the CBA National Women Lawyers Forum will launch Not Just a Bystander, a free podcast that grew out of their 2015 campaign about sexual harassment in the workplace.
