Dear Section Members,
There continues to be a lot going on in the pension landscape across Canada. And the CBA’s National Pensions & Benefits Law Section is right in the thick of it! We’ve just published new legal developments in pensions and benefits law.
Our Executive Committee includes lawyers practising in pensions and benefits from coast to coast, be that in a law firm, in-house or in an actuarial consulting firm. We have established strong working relationships and meet regularly with governments and regulators such as Finance Canada, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), to discuss policy and administrative issues. We are frequently consulted by provincial and federal governments to provide advice on draft legislation, even before it is tabled in the legislature. Since our Section was founded in 2006, we have prepared more than 50 submissions to governments and regulators.
In collaboration with the American Bar Association (ABA) and the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers Association (IPEBLA), we will be co-hosting a joint conference in Boston in June 2018. Mark your calendars!
