The CBA Pensions and Benefits Law Section is seeking nominations for a Secretary and up to 10 Executive Members for the term Sept. 1, 2016 to Aug. 31, 2017. Candidates must be Section members at the time of nomination and throughout their term. Information about the role and expectations of the Executive is available online.
Effective Sept. 1, 2016 the Officers will be:
Chair: Tina Hobday (Montreal, Que.)
Vice-Chair: Elizabeth Brown (Toronto, Ont.)
Treasurer: Sonia Mak (Toronto, Ont.)
Secretary: Vacant
Past-Chair: Michael Wolpert (Calgary, Alta.)
When filling positions, the Section takes geographic location and diversity issues into account. We consider experienced Branch Section Chairs, senior practitioners, and members familiar with and active in Section activities, but also seek new participants. We are also looking for members from various practice settings regularly involving pensions and benefits law.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for preparing minutes of meetings in a timely manner and otherwise assists the Executive as needed.
The Secretary sequentially occupies each office through to Immediate Past Chair. Candidates make a commitment to make best efforts to represent the Section at the CBA Mid-Winter (February in Ottawa) and Annual Meeting (August) during the year in which they are Chair, although currently there is no funding for those meetings.
Please confirm whether the candidate wishes to be considered for an Executive Member position in the event he or she is not successful with regard to the Secretary position.
Executive Members
Executive Member positions are open to any Section member willing to actively participate in the work of the Section. Executive Members are expected to attend meetings and conference calls and provide input or take responsibility for various tasks as they arise. There are many opportunities to assist and executive members are expected to volunteer for activities and projects as appropriate.
Nominations
Nominations must be received by May 31, 2016 c/o Inika Anderson. Complete nominations include a short CV or email noting highlights of the candidate’s experience with the Section. We also require confirmation of the candidate’s willingness to assume the position, having been made aware of the commitment.
