DEDICATED TO EQUITY AND DIVERSITY
Reporting to the Governance and Equity Committee, the Equity Subcommittee promotes equity, develops helpful resources and oversees CBA equity initiatives.
What We Do
The Equity Subcommittee works with CBA groups and other organizations to:
- Promote awareness of equity issues in the legal profession to ensure that the profession reflects the communities it serves
- Develop resources to help the legal profession eliminate discrimination and achieve diversity and inclusion, and to help CBA members from diverse communities thrive in their careers
- Monitor the status of equity and diversity in the legal profession
- Oversee equity initiatives in the CBA, including implementation of resolutions
Our Expertise
Equity Subcommittee members bring the following expertise to our work:
- Understanding of the CBA’s mandate and history in relation to equity initiatives
- Involvement with equity initiatives at your CBA branch or workplace
- Solid knowledge of equity issues and related legislation, jurisprudence, procedural justice, theory and practices
- Knowledge of challenges faced by members of particular diverse communities coming into contact with the justice system, or with respect to membership in the legal profession
- Knowledge of or involvement in initiatives undertaken in other equity-seeking organizations
Time Commitment
Members spend approximately 6.5 days per year providing their expertise and participating in meetings.
