Your voice is needed on pensions and employee benefits law!

  • October 30, 2020

The pandemic has hit our profession in ways we could not imagine. Now, more then ever, our section needs forward thinkers and leaders. We are looking for lawyers who can help our country and provinces move forward when it comes to pensions and benefits.

This year’s Executive Committee has an ambitious mission (read complete mission here) of increasing Section membership by providing value to members in terms of advocacy, professional development and the opportunity to interact with regulators. We are aiming to increase young lawyer participation in the Section and raise our profile throughout the CBA. We want to hear from you!

We are actively engaged in advocating for pension standards reform, organizing activities and professional development programs for the benefit of our members. Check out our webpage to find out more about the resources available, our submissions on pension standards reform, and Section member articles.

VOLUNTEER

Accomplishing these goals requires your energy and expertise, so we are counting on you to volunteer on the various committees doing work in advocacy & government relations, communications/social media, professional development and outreach. We value diversity and keep it in mind for the composition of our committees. Join a Committee!

ADVOCACY WORK

If you cannot volunteer, we would like your input on our advocacy work. Each year, representatives of the Section are invited to attend meetings with the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA), Finance Canada, the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI).

During these meetings, the Executive share ideas and discuss emerging trends and challenges in the pensions & benefits sector and provide input on current issues. We are seeking suggestions from Section members on topics of general relevance and application (as opposed to advocacy for a specific client or matter). Your input is welcome anytime, but to be considered for our next set of meetings please send us your ideas by November 13, 2020. We look forward to hearing from you.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Our Section is committed to providing quality education for members. Missed our most recent webinar – Pensions Law Update? A recording will be available soon!
