Dear Section Members,
The Intellectual Property Section serves as the CBA’s national voice on intellectual property law and legal practice. We contribute to national policy, promote professionalism in the field of IP law, and respond to legislative initiatives. Our members get access to the latest submissions and news. Check out our website and find out who’s on the 2018-2019 executive.
The IP Section liaises regularly with government, including Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and Global Affairs Canada. Our work touches on policy development (IP laws and regulations, program effectiveness and enforcement issues), joint outreach (seminars to business leaders on IP law), and input on international treaty initiatives. The IP Section also liaises with the American Bar Association IP Section and with other domestic and international organizations focused on IP issues.
We want you to get involved! Here’s how you can stay connected and contribute:
- Join a committee. Our committees deal with substantive issues on topics such as biotechnology, patents and industrial design, counterfeiting and trade offenses, court practice, trade-marks and transactional IP. We value diversity and welcome young lawyers and members from a variety of practice settings.
- Encourage a law student to enter our IP essay competition. We also need adjudicators and contest sponsors.
- Participate in IP Day 2019. Don’t miss the premier networking, educational and social event for IP litigators across Canada. Block off May 30 in your calendars now! Check out photos from last year’s CBA Federal Court Judges’ Dinner.
Please contact our staff liaison Marina Ceclan to join a committee or get involved.
We look forward to hearing from you.
