Coffee in the Times of COVID – Cohort Stream
Our Section will present a Coffee in the Times of COVID cohort stream called “Exciting and Rewarding Careers in Health Law” from May 30 to July 25, 2022. The facilitators will aim to shake up preconceptions of what a practice in health law can mean and provide participants with a wide lens on health law through small group conversations with in-house counsel and lawyers practicing in health policy and health regulation. If you are a law student or new lawyer, join us and share in your network!
Virtual Introduction to Health Law for Students – September 15, 2022
If you are a law student or recent graduate and you are curious about the practice of health law, join us for an interactive mentoring session with a panel of health lawyers from across Canada. This is a great opportunity to learn about the different types of practices within health law, and to hear tips on how to pursue a career in the area. You will also get to meet with each lawyer in a small group setting to answer all your questions.

Coming this Fall: An Update on the Law of Medical Assistance in Dying – October 11, 2022
As of March 2021, Bill C-7 expanded the eligibility for medical assistance in dying (“MAiD”) to be more in line with the Supreme Court of Canada’s 2015 Carter decision. However, for individuals whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness, there is a two-year grace period for the law to come into effect while the government develops safeguards and protocols. Our expert panel will review how the law of MAiD has developed, what has changed with Bill C-7, and what’s potentially coming next. Save your spot now!
