Committees

With six active and influential committees, opportunities about for networking in specialized practice areas, knowledge building, sharing expertise, community engagement, and expanding your professional horizons. Communications Committee: The committee is primarily involved in developing and networking on strategies to expand the outreach and communications initiatives of NEERLS such as content development for the Section webpage and member communications. 

DOJ Day Committee: The Department of Justice Committee is responsible for organizing the annual event between Section members and their Justice counterparts. DOJ Day typically involves engaging sessions and discussions on topics of mutual interest to NEERLS and the Department of Justice. 

Legislation and Law Reform Committee: The committee is involved in reviewing and providing comments/ feedback to the Government on any draft legislation or legislative proposals on topics of interest to environmental, energy and resource law. 

Summit Committee: The main event of the year for the Section, the committee is responsible for organizing the annual event. Comprised of networking events and programming, this two-day event, held in a different location of Canada each year, is attended by speakers and delegates from around the world and Canada. 

Webinar Committee: The Committee is responsible for developing and organizing up to two webinars for Section members on an annual basis on topics of interest to members, including substantive law and practice management issues. 

Essay Contest Committee: Established in honour of David Estrin, a pioneer of environmental law in Canada, and sponsored by Gowling WLG, the Section has an annual essay contest to promote and reward interest in environmental, energy and resource law topics in Canadian law schools. The committee is responsible for shortlisting, reviewing, and selecting the winner of the contest. For more information, please visit the awards page.
