The CBA says proposed amendments to the Criminal Code in Bill C-26, to expand use of sex offender registries and, increase mandatory minimum and consecutive sentences, would not make children safer.

The CBA says Bill C-452, which would amend the Criminal Code to create a rebuttable presumption of guilt against anyone who lives with or is habitually in the company of a person who is exploited, is likely to be found unconstitutional.

The CBA is concerned that imposing stringent reporting requirements on labour organizations undermines the privacy of Canadians, may be unconstitutional, and unintentionally captures a myriad of pension or benefit funds with unionized employees.

The CBA says that Bill C-36, responding to the Supreme Court's decision in AG Canada v Bedford, would reintroduce problems the Court found unconstitutional.

The CBA supports the Judges Act amendments in the Economic Action Plan 2014 Act (Bill C-31) to increase the number of superior court judges in Alberta and Quebec. This will improve access to justice.

WHEREAS the Second Fundamental Principle of Olympism states that the goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity

WHEREAS Canada was a key proponent and one of the first states to sign the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (ratified in 1991), one of the most universally ratified United Nations treaties

WHEREAS Cameroon’s criminal code punishes private same-sex sexual activity between consenting adults, in contravention of international human rights laws which Cameroon has signed and ratified

WHEREAS the Ministerial Direction to CSIS on Information Sharing With Foreign Entities (the Direction) permits, in limited circumstances at the discretion of the CSIS Director, sharing information that may be derived from or put persons at risk of torture or other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment (mistreatment)

The CBA remain of the opinion that Bill C-377 is fundamentally flawed and triggers serious concerns from a privacy, constitutional and pensions law perspective.
