The Charities and Not-for-profit Law Section is pleased to welcome you back to another year of working together on law reform and Section activities. We are a very dynamic Section with an active Executive and working committees. It’s an exciting time to be practising in this area of law and we invite you to get involved!
RECENT ACTIVITIES
- In August, the Section made a Pre-Budget 2019 submission to the Commons Standing Committee on Finance (Finance Committee) regarding the rules related to social enterprise and social finance that are applicable to charities and not-for-profit organizations.
- The Section regularly participates in consultations on proposed law reform and the review of draft legislation as well as making submissions to various government bodies regarding the same. We recently submitted comments on the Draft Legislation tabled by the Department of Finance in September to amend the rules related to political activities.
- The Section is involved in reviewing and making submissions on draft CRA Charities Directorate Guidelines and is currently considering CRA’s draft Guidelines on Unacceptable Private Benefit & Undue Benefit.
