What We Do
The Access to Justice Subcommittee:
- Provides leadership for the Equal Justice Initiative, including advocating for the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Reaching Equal Justice report.
- Advocates for government responsibility for a publicly funded legal aid system
- Promotes pro bono services in the legal profession
- Supports innovation that improves access to justice, in line with the Legal Futures Initiative
Our Expertise
Subcommittee members have experience with and knowledge of issues relating to access to justice, including:
- Experience delivering legal aid services
- Experience in legal aid policy or research
- Experience with pro bono legal organizations
- Knowledge of public legal education
- Knowledge of Aboriginal issues in the Canadian legal system
- Knowledge of poverty law issues
Time Commitment
Members spend approximately 6.5 days per year providing their expertise and attending meetings.
