Bill C-44 — Protection of Canada from Terrorists Act November 28, 2014 The CBA says Bill C-44 undermines established practices that balance national security against fundamental rights. The proposed amendments reduce protections against disclosure of information that may identify confidential informants.
Proposed Amendments to the Live-in Caregiver Program November 27, 2014 The CBA supports reforms to the caregiver program, but has concerns about using Ministerial Instructions to this end. It is also concerned that the transition to the new "Caregiver Program" might cause hardship for those under the existing program.
Citizenship Regulations Amendments November 24, 2014 The CBA says the 10-day limit to respond to a government consultation does not permit meaningful consideration of the issues in a matter as fundamental to Canadian democracy as procedural fairness in revocation of citizenship.
Bill C-43, Part 4, Division 28 — Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act November 21, 2014 The CBA supports efforts to raise global standards for transparency in the extractive sector, however, urges harmonization of the reporting requirements with the Unites States and European Union regimes.
FLSC Model Code of Professional Conduct Amendments (Communicating with witnesses, errors and omissions, equity seeking groups) November 20, 2014 The CBA supports the amendments to the Model Code of Professional Conduct proposed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and suggests a number of changes to strengthen the new and revised provisions.
Bill C-43, Part 4, Division 24 — Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Amendments November 19, 2014 The CBA has concerns with IRPA amendments allowing publication of a list of employers who have offended federal or provincial laws, amending the powers to inspect and to require documents to verify employer compliance.
Bill C-43, Part 4, Division 5 — Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act Amendments November 18, 2014 The CBA opposes amendments to the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act. It urges the amendments be eliminated from Bill C-43, or amended to ensure all vulnerable persons, especially refugee claimants, be exempted from provincial wait lists.

Bill C-43, Part 4, Division 9 — Investment Canada Act Amendments November 17, 2014 This bill permits increased disclosure of information in national security reviews of foreign investments. The CBA seeks a balance between transparency of decisions under the ICA and protecting legitimate commercial confidentiality interests.
