OTTAWA – In recognition of her significant contribution to the legal profession, the Canadian Bar Association and her years of public service and commitment to making Canada a more just society, The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin will be presented with the CBA President’s Award at the President’s Dinner on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Ottawa. 

OTTAWA – For her outstanding dedication and team spirit and for her genuine commitment to the CBA, Michèle Moreau, Director of Protection and Defense of Rights and Interim Deputy Director for Investigations for the Quebec Human Rights Commission, is being awarded the Douglas Miller Award. 

OTTAWA – In recognition of Justice Harry S. LaForme’s commitment to advancing the cause of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and two-spirited people with the Canadian legal profession, the Canadian Bar Association is awarding him the SOGIC Ally Award.

OTTAWA – In recognition of Florence Ashley’s commitment to advancing the cause of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and two-spirited people with the Canadian legal profession, the Canadian Bar Association is awarding them the SOGIC – Hero Award.  The award will be presented to Florence Ashley at the CBA’s President’s Dinner on February 12, 2019 in Ottawa.

OTTAWA – To celebrate the accomplishments of The Honourable Douglas R. Campbell for championing issues of equality within the institutions of the legal profession including the judiciary, the Canadian Bar Association is awarding him the Touchstone Award. 

The Canadian Bar Association is deeply concerned with the Guatemalan government’s decision to oust the UN backed Commission Against Impunity. It is an attack on the rule of law and a major blow to democracy in Guatemala.

CBA President Ray Adlington thanks Jody Wilson-Raybould for her service as he welcome the new Justice Minister to his new role.

Today the Canadian Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Forum launches the first ever national compensation survey of partners in law firms in Canada.

Ray Adlington of Halifax, N.S., started his year-long tenure as President of the Canadian Bar Association on September 1st. Adlington takes over from outgoing president Kerry L. Simmons, Q.C., of Victoria, BC.

The Canadian Bar Association supports the American Bar Association’s statement opposing the current situation in the United States where children are being separated from their parents and being held in detention facilities.
