It’s easy to forget about the North. The population of the Northwest Territories is only 45,000, which is a tiny fraction of Canada’s 36 million.

The CBA’s Truth and Reconciliation Task Force delivered its final report to the Governance and Equality Committee on Jan. 31, for discussion there, as well as at the February meeting of the Board and the Leadership Forum held in conjunction with the AGM in Ottawa.

A host of awards were handed out to deserving recipients this year at the President’s Dinner that followed the CBA AGM and Board meeting in February, but by far the star of the show was former Supreme Court of Canada Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin.

Brad Regehr, the Board member from Manitoba, is has been elected to the position of CBA Vice-President. In his statement of intent for the job, Brad says he will further the work done by the CBA in access to justice, as well as in diversity and inclusivity.

Twila Reid, a partner with Stewart McKelvey in St. John’s, is the Board member from Newfoundland and Labrador.

As a participant in the Young Lawyers International Program with the Canadian Bar Association, I am now half way through my placement with the International Development Law Organization in Yangon, Myanmar.
