Are you flexible, patient, pragmatic and proactive? Are your diplomatic and budgetary skills up to snuff? How about your listening skills and sense of humour? All of these characteristics and more are invaluable for interns in our Young Lawyers International Program, which sees young Canadian lawyers placed with partners overseas to work on legal issues in an international development context.
While interns can’t practise law in their placement countries, they will work with professional bodies and NGOs doing research, analysis and other work in support of the rule of law and human rights, public legal education, and other efforts related to improving the local justice and rights framework in placement countries.
We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 Young Lawyers International Program. The deadline to apply is April 30th, 2019. Details on the program, and on how to apply, can be found on our website.
Lately the current crop of interns has been participating in #takeoverTuesdays on the CBA’s Instagram page. Every Tuesday until the end of April a different intern will be taking over the account to talk about what they’re doing in their placement countries. Follow @CanadianBarAssociation to get a glimpse into the YLIP intern experience.
And International Development Week is over, but check out the YLIP Facebook page (@CBAYLIP) where we’ve highlighted the work of our interns and partners.
