OTTAWA – No one ever thinks it will happen to them. But in any given three-year period nearly half the population will experience a legal issue requiring legal advice. And when they do, quite a few will discover that Canada’s vaunted social safety net has unravelled in the places where legal aid should be.

With the federal election coming around the corner, the CBA will be working hard to put one of its key policy issues on the political radar.

You could see it in the packed rooms, with people spilling over into the overflow seating at the back. You could hear it in the noisy conversation at break times, strangers becoming comrades. And you could feel it in the air, the energy crackling in the room as the CBA’s first-ever Leadership Bootcamp for Racialized Lawyers kicked off in Toronto.

This membership renewal season, the CBA is pleased to offer you more for your membership. All CBA members now receive complimentary access to 52 professional development programs, representing 67 hours of accredited CPD.

Over the course of the next 9-to-10 months, the Canadian Bar Association will work with bar associations and civil society groups in Jamaica to help citizens, civil society representatives and legal professionals participate more fully in the justice reform process.

CBA International Initiatives presented the first two of five training modules related to the extractive industry to partners in East Africa earlier this year.

Summer may be on the horizon but the Competition Law Section isn’t slowing down.
