Our Section has a long and proud history, and we’re indebted to Gary Segal and Marshall Drukarsh for sharing their memories of the foundation of our organization. What follows is a very abridged version of their account.

The Canadian Bar Association welcomes the re-appointment of The Honourable David Lametti to the Justice portfolio. We look forward to renewing our relationship with Minister Lametti, and working with him and his cabinet colleagues as the new government embarks on its legislative agenda.

The Canadian Bar Association’s Child and Youth Law Section is pleased to mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 2019. This is an opportunity to assess, strengthen awareness and work to realize children’s rights in Canada.

The CBA is collaborating with the Indigenous Reconciliation Group (IRG) to gather input on our response to the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.

Representatives from Jamaican civil society converged in the heart of downtown Kingston on October 9, 2019 for a full day workshop to discuss the barriers that persons living with disabilities have in getting access to justice.

Despite the breathtaking diversity of municipal law practice, the communities we serve from coast to coast are often bound by common concerns. Our Section provides a rare national forum in local government practice to share our collective wisdom on common issues.

Just as Canadians make preparations for winter well ahead of time, the CBA is preparing for its 2020 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, February 19.
