On September 8, 2017, the government released its draft legislation to implement changes to billed-basis accounting for work in progress. The Canadian Bar Association welcomes the news that the proposal reflects a longer coming-into-force period.

The Government of Canada is currently seeking candidates for a dozen of these rosters under the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Canada – European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, the Canada – Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement and the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and the Nationals of Other States.

It’s been an exciting time for the Canadian Bar Review. The editors completed their first three-issue volume with a special issue on former Supreme Court Justice Louis Lebel, and are kicking off their second volume with a special issue focused on legal education for the whole career.

The federal government calls its latest proposed income tax measures a step in the direction of #taxfairness, but the CBA – along with dozens of other organizations – is calling them #unfairtaxchanges.

The CBA Real Property Section has developed a Mortgage Instructions Toolkit for lawyers who deal with residential real estate transactions – and the increasingly broad scope of lender instructions, which are becoming increasingly onerous and sometimes inappropriate.
