Justice Undertakings for Social Transformation (JUST): Social Component
CBA International Initiatives (CBAII) is working in Jamaica to deliver programs that strengthen the capacity of citizens, civil society representatives and legal professionals to participate in the justice reform process.
BACKGROUND
In May 2019, a delegation from the CBAII department travelled to Kingston, Jamaica to facilitate discussions towards enhancing the participation of civil society actors in the ongoing justice reform process in Jamaica. The Justice Undertakings for Social Transformation (JUST): Social Order Component is part of a broader justice sector reform initiative in Jamaica funded by Global Affairs Canada. The program is implemented by the Government of Jamaica (Ministry of Justice) with support from Canada’s Department of Justice and the United Nations Development Program.
The JUST program’s multi-sectoral approach focuses on:
- Providing enhanced technical-legal assistance
- Institutional strengthening
- Social order capacity-building to actors within the justice sector, on behalf of the poorest and most marginalised Jamaicans.
The Canadian Bar Association shares responsibility for the implementation of the Social Order Component of the JUST program.
