Call for nominations: CBA National Criminal Justice Section
APPLY ONLINE | APRIL 30 – MAY 31, 2024
The CBA National Criminal Justice Section is seeking nominations for a Secretary, a Communications Officer and up to ten Members-at-Large, for the term September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for preparing minutes of meetings and conference calls in a timely manner, and otherwise assists the Executive as needed.
Communications Officer
The Communications Officer is expected to attend meetings and conference calls and is responsible for keeping Section members informed of key Section activities, upcoming events, and opportunities to get involved in the work of the Section.
The Communications Officer sequentially occupies each office through to Past Chair, which involves a five-year commitment.
An important aspect of the Section’s reputation is that we represent a balance of Crown and Defence lawyers from across Canada. When holding these annual elections, the Criminal Justice Section usually strives to maintain that balance where possible, as well as achieving gender and regional representation.
Members-at-Large
Member-at-Large positions are open to Section members who wish to actively participate in the work of the Section. Members-at-Large attend meetings and conference calls as they are able provide input or take responsibility for various tasks as they arise, and take the lead on one or more law reform initiatives. There are many opportunities to assist.
Young lawyers (within 3 years of call) and students with a particular interest or relevant experience are encouraged to apply for Member-at-Large positions.
Roles and expectations for each position.
Nominations
Nominations must be received by May 31, 2024. When filling positions, the Section takes various factors into account, including language, geographic representation and diversity. We consider members who are familiar with and active in Section activities, but also seek new participants.
