On March 2, 2018, women lawyers and judges gathered together for the annual event of the PEI section of the Women Lawyers Forum.
P.E.I.’s small bar creates a close-knit community. This lunch and continuing legal education session is something many of us look forward to each year. It fosters new and old friendships and offers a fun and informal opportunity to network and make personal connections.
The CLE this year featured a panel discussion with Chief Justice Tracey Clements, Leslie Collins, Q.C., with Prince Edward Island Legal Aid, and Alanna Taylor, Q.C., a partner with Cox & Palmer. Members got to hear the Chief Justice’s views from the bench as well as many practical tips from two highly respected practitioners on a range of topics including communication with clients, relationships with other members of the bar and courtroom advocacy.
Panellists shared advice and facilitated discussion with attendees about how best to respond to difficult situations. As expected, the serious topics did not get in the way of a good time. Personal stories from panellists and comments from the floor provided ample entertainment. As an organizer of the event I can say that we achieved our goal of offering practical learning over the course of an enjoyable and social afternoon together. Thank you to everyone who attended.
