Dear Section Members,
The CBA National Wills, Estates and Trusts Section is Canada’s leading association of wills, estates and trusts lawyers. From across the country, we have many experienced practitioners who actively share their expertise on all issues related to the law and practice in this area. We also have strong ties with other associations, such as the Canadian Bankers Association. Check out our website and find out who is on the 2016-2017 executive.
With our extended reach, we are able to provide information on a national scope, allowing our members to compare the laws of different jurisdictions. As reference, we invite you to view our Cross-Jurisdictional Table, which provides a comprehensive comparison of the various rules between all Canadian provinces and territories in subject matters such as the various forms of wills, powers of attorney, trusts for the disabled and so much more.
Also, our Section contributes to prospective legislation. We recently made a submission to the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of Canada on Bill C-14 which deals with the issue of medical assistance in dying. For more information, please take a look at our most recent submission: Medical Assistance in Dying — Advance Requests, Mature Minors and Persons with Mental Illness.
Finally, members who are interested in posting articles (1,000 words or less) are encouraged to send them to the Section’s editor, Kelly Greenwood. In addition you do not need to be on the executive to contribute to your Section, simply follow this link to find out how you can help.
