Hero/Ally Award Nominations Open!
We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2023 CBA SOGIC Section’s Hero and Ally Awards. The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2023.
These awards recognize excellence in the Canadian legal profession in advancing the cause of equality for LGBTQ2SI+ individuals. Our section currently presents two awards to deserving members of the community and allies!
The Ally Award
The Ally Award is open to any lawyer, professor, law student, or judge who does not identify as a member of the LGTBQ2SI+ communities, and who has advanced the cause of equality of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities through a career contribution. In the case of judges, the award is open to those who have demonstrated insight into and sensitivity toward the equality concerns of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities.
The Hero Award
The Hero Award is open to any lawyer, professor, law student, or judge who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities, and who has advanced the cause of equality of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities through a single important action, a series of actions, or through a career contribution, or who has served as a role model for other members of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities.
How do I nominate someone?
Nominees must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Current Section Executive members are not eligible. Awards are not granted posthumously.
Nominating someone for either the Ally Award or Hero Award is easy! All you need to do is provide a letter stating the reason for the nomination along with written consent from, and a current CV for, your nominee.
