Hero/Ally Award Nominations Open!
We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2022 CBA SOGIC Section’s Hero and Ally Awards. The deadline for nominations is May 15, 2022.
These awards recognize excellence in the Canadian legal profession in advancing the cause of equality for LGBTQ2SI+ individuals. Our Section currently presents two awards to deserving members of the community and allies!
The Ally Award
The Award is open to any lawyer, professor, law student, or judges who are not members of LGTBQ2SI+ communities, who have advanced the cause of equality of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities through a career contribution. In the case of judges, open to those who during their career have demonstrated insight into and sensitivity toward the equality concerns of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities.
The Hero Award
The Hero Award is open to lawyers, professors, law students or judges who are members of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities, who have advanced the cause of equality of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities through either a single important action or series of actions or through a career contribution and/or those, who through excellence in their profession or community, or both, have served as a role model for other members of the LGBTQ2SI+ communities.
How do I nominate someone?
Nominees must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Current Section Executive members are not eligible. Awards are not granted posthumously.
Nominating someone for either the Ally or Hero Award is easy! All you need to do is provide a letter stating the reason for the nomination along with written consent from, and a current CV for, your nominee. Please include the full name, address, telephone, fax and email information of both the nominee and the nominator.
Pride is Coming!
Get your rainbow tabs ready, as Pride is fast approaching. The CBA SOGIC Section will once again be encouraging its members to post photos in rainbow tabs, or in other legal settings celebrating their pride.
As events are organized and finalized, we will be distributing a list of events on our Pride page, so watch for further information on how to attend and participate in events in your area and online!
