Happy New Year! The Executive and committee members have been working hard on several initiatives that we’d like to share with you.
Relaunch of our listservs
Our Section has relaunched its committee listservs so all Section members, who have enrolled, can communicate with each other easily!
Join and contribute to one or more listservs:
- Dispute Resolution Committee (International Law Section)
- International Business and Regulation Committee
- International Export Controls Committee
- International Law & the Rights of Persons & Communities
- International Trade and Investment Committee
Attend or volunteer for an online conference
The Section will be organizing a ‘Speed Networking’ event on February 24, 2021 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm ET as part of the “Human Rights in Pandemic Times: A Canadian Law School Conference”, hosted by the Queen’s Human Rights Law Club. Students and lawyers will have the opportunity to meet virtually in small groups to discuss careers and opportunities in international law.
We are looking for volunteers to make this event a success! Please complete the conference registration form if you are interested in participating either as an attendee or as a volunteer to speak to students about careers in international or human rights law!
Contribute to the Law Student and New Lawyer Committee
The committee’s mandate is to help law students and new lawyers navigate what it means to practice international law. To fulfill the mandate, the committee is working on the following initiatives:
- Assisting with the conference on international human rights mentioned above. The Section will also contribute speakers to a panel.
- Establishing a resource to help students and young lawyers find international law opportunities including paid and volunteer opportunities.
- Developing podcasts including interviews with practitioners and students on the practice of international law as well as substantive legal issues.
- Creating a forum with resources to build mentor/mentee relationships recognizing the importance of mentorship in careers in international law.
If you are interested in assisting with any of these initiatives, please contact us!
Publish in the Canadian International Law Journal
The relaunch of our peer-reviewed legal journal, the Canadian International Lawyer (CIL), is now in full swing. The aim of CIL is to provide legal articles on topics of interest to Canadian practitioners of international law, which range from human rights to humanitarian law and trade.
The CIL editorial board is soliciting articles for the 2021 edition of the journal, and we encourage you to submit an article by March 1, 2021. Please check out the instructions to authors to prepare submissions. Don’t forget to check out past issues of the CIL online.
