It was our absolute pleasure to Co-Chair the 2023 CBA Construction & Infrastructure Law Conference in Vancouver. We are grateful to the CBA team, especially Wendy Vance and Erika Gow, and the exceptional organizing committee. The past year was truly a team effort and the organizing committee dedicated considerable time to pulling it all together. The organizing committee included: Rosalie Clark, Nicola Crema, Harpreet Dosanjh, Ahmed Elashry, Andrea Gorys, Courtney Kachur, Seema Lal, Jason Lewis, Marcia J. Oliver, David Plunkett, and Lena Wang.
The conference delivered a jam-packed program to a sold-out crowd. The conference began with a welcome and blessing from Musqueam Elder Thelma Stogan and her granddaughter Felicia Stogan. Conference attendees also experienced an impressive and powerful hoop dance by Alex Wells of the Lit’wat Nation.
On behalf of the 135+ attendees, thank you to all of the fantastic speakers and content contributors.
The theme for the conference was “Construction Law Progress and Change – Preparing Your Practice for Tomorrow”. From advancements in construction tech to current and future ESG considerations. The sessions represented the strength and commitment to excellence of the construction and infrastructure bar across Canada.
We enjoyed a relevant and insightful keynote address by The Honourable Justice Thomas A. Cromwell, C.C. on the issues of cost and efficiency in the context of construction arbitration.
We also took the opportunity to present the Construction & Infrastructure Award of Excellence. Congratulations to Douglas (Doug) R. Sanders on the well-deserved recognition.
If you missed the conference or want to revisit a session, the recordings are now available!
Finally, thank you to the conference sponsors who made it possible for us to have a fabulous time:
We look forward to convening again in 2025!
Your Conference Co-Chairs, Krista Johanson & Vanessa Werden
