Your Section Executive includes the Officers, provincial Branch Chairs and Members-at-Large who volunteer their time. We encourage you to visit our Section webpage and meet the 2019–2020 Executive. There you can also explore Section resources and our advocacy submissions to government.
Our number one priority for 2019–2020 is our Section members and a commitment to deliver value to our members.
We began the year with the successful webinar, An Introduction to Construction & Infrastructure Law (recording available for purchase). Catching up on your CPD hours? Additional past programs are available, including those from September 2019 to date.
We will continue to plan and deliver timely, relevant programming, as well as advocacy to government for our members. In particular, the October 2019 Canadian Infrastructure Report Card is a fitting reminder that Canada’s public infrastructure will require significant attention in the coming decades. Our Section will continue to communicate to government the importance of our industry sector to a healthy economy and the well-being of Canadians.
We will be following the recent amendments to provincial construction law statutes and providing updates on federal initiatives, such as the Federal Prompt Payment for Construction Work Act, passed this last summer.
The CBA has made diversity and inclusion a priority for this year, and our Section is participating in those goals with efforts to drive a more inclusive intergenerational dialogue. For our younger Section members, please join our Section’s Young Lawyers Committee and get involved! Contact us for more information.
For law students, our Section offers The Atrium Law Student Essay Contest, which aims to promote and reward interest in construction and infrastructure law topics in Canadian law schools. Law students have the chance to win a cash prize of $500, and have their paper published on the Section webpage. Applications will open in the early new year, deadline for submissions is March 31, 2020.
We are also pleased to invite nominations before March 31, 2020 for the CBA Construction & Infrastructure Award of Excellence. This Award will be presented at the CBA Construction & Infrastructure Law Conference in Montreal, October 23–24, 2020 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. Watch for more details on the full conference program throughout the year.
Lastly, please invite your colleagues to join our Section. Membership has its privileges! If you have additional ideas on what you would like to see the Section accomplish, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
We look forward to hearing from you.
