On February 2, 2015, the Competition Bureau announced that the pre-merger notification threshold relating to transaction-size for 2015 will increase to $86 million from the 2014 threshold of $82 million.

On Jan. 22, 2015, the SCC issued its long-awaited decision in Tervita Corp. v Canada (Commissioner of Competition). This the first Supreme Court of Canada decision relating to the mergers provisions of the Canadian Competition Act in almost 20 years.

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is holding its annual Competition Law Fall Conference at the Ottawa Convention Centre on September 18 and 19, 2014.

Thomas Mathews, a graduate of the University of Ottawa's Juris Doctorate (National Program), is the winner of the 2013 Canadian Bar Association (CBA) James H. Bocking Memorial Award for his paper, “The Failing Firm Defence: Re-examining Canada’s Approach to Rescue Mergers in Light of the US and EU Experience.” The award is presented annually for the best scholarly paper submitted to the CBA’s National Competition Law Section on a subject directly related to Canadian competition law or policy.

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is holding its annual Competition Law Fall Conference at the Ottawa Convention Centre on October 3 and 4, 2013. On the agenda are sessions on the latest developments and issues in advertising and marketing, intellectual property, cartels, unilateral conduct, and the disclosure of confidential information in competition cases, among others.
