CCCA 2024 IN-HOUSE COUNSEL BOOTCAMP & LEADERSHIP RETREAT

The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association’s (CCCA) In-House Counsel Bootcamp Series is being offered again this year in collaboration with LexMundi and its partner firms across Canada between February 14 and March 13, 2024.

CANADIAN COMPETITION LAW REVIEW (CCLR)

The deadline for submissions for the 2024 spring edition of the Canadian Competition Law Review (CCLR) is March 1, 2024.

CCLR is traditionally published twice annually, and submissions are accepted year-round. Submissions may be original articles, case comments, book reviews, and essays on significant current issues in competition law and economics.

The Winter edition of the CCLR is available on our newly revamped website! Previous issues are still available on the CBA’s webpage.

CONSULTATION ON STRENGTHENING COMPETITION IN THE FINANCIAL SECTOR

The Department of Finance has launched a consultation on potential measures that the federal government could take to strengthen competition in Canada’s financial sector and in particular is seeking views on how the current acquisition or merger process could be enhanced to support greater competition, including potential additional factors which could be considered by the Minister of Finance when making such a decision, and potential additional measures to address market concentration, as well as barriers to entry or expansion. Submissions for this consultation will be open until March 1, 2024.

OECD COMPETITION OPEN DAY – MARCH 6, 2024

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Competition Open Day offers every year a unique opportunity to discuss cutting-edge topics recently addressed by the OECD Competition Committee. The sixth edition will be held in Paris (France) on March 6, 2024. This is a free event open to the broad competition community and those interested in the work of the OECD on competition, including legal practitioners, economists, consultants, in-house counsel, regulators, academics and the media.

2024 ADAM F. FANAKI COMPETITION LAW MOOT

On March 22-23, 2024, the Section, the Competition Bureau and the Competition Tribunal are planning the 6th annual Adam F. Fanaki Competition Law Moot in Toronto, ON.

We are seeking volunteers from the bar to act as factum judges. Students’ submissions are due January 26 and February 9, and factum judges will have until March 15 to evaluate the papers. Please note that submissions will be written in both French and English, and we ask that volunteers be prepared to work in both languages.
