On behalf of the Executive, it is my privilege to welcome returning and new members to the CBA Dispute Resolution section. The Executive and I appreciate the opportunity to work with all of you to build upon the successful initiatives from the 2023/2024 year.
The achievements last year were due in large part to the strategic leadership and commitment of our now past Chair, Elena Merrit. I would like to personally thank Elena for her hard work and dedication. In the Past Chair role, Elena will continue to be a key member of the Executive and share her insights.
I would also like to introduce my fellow officers for this year, Shannon Belvedere (Vice-Chair) and Paulette DeKelver (Secretary). Both have been active members of the CBA and have demonstrated a commitment to Dispute Resolution. Together, we are committed to bringing new ideas to the table, fostering partnerships, and facilitating collaboration on strategic initiatives.
The Executive extends a special welcome to the branch chairs and members-at-large from across the country (new and returning). We are looking forward to working with each of you to enhance the profile of dispute resolution, unpack developments and issues impacting the field of dispute resolution, and collaborate on professional development opportunities.
As we start the new term, members are invited to join the committees listed in their orientation material – Outreach, Professional Development, or Communications. Priorities identified in the strategic planning session include:
- Enhancing engagement initiated with the Department of Justice
- Collaborating with ADRIC on areas of mutual interest in our respective strategic plans
- Developing robust Professional Development programming
- Co-sponsoring higher profile professional development sessions
- Encouraging members to contribute to the newsletter and LinkedIn page
- Cross promotion of sessions and initiatives in the regions and with key partners
- Working with universities to promote the James L. Thistle K.C. Law Student Essay Contest
Looking forward to collaborating for an impactful and value added 2024/2025 term. Please do reach out to share your thoughts, ideas, and feedback.
