Year in Review: Regulated Professionals – Right or Responsibility of Expression?

Regulated professionals have traditionally commented publicly on a wide variety of topics in their field – they are known teachers, advocates, researchers, speakers and writers. Have our modern means of communication, and social media, changed that landscape? Members of the public, and regulators, appear to be paying increased attention to statements made by regulated professionals on professional, social and political issues. The recent case of Dr. Jordan Peterson and the College of Psychologists of Ontario attracted international attention. This “year in review” Webinar will examine the tension between freedom of expression and public-interest professional regulation generally and will turn to a more detailed examination of these issues in the regulated health professions.
