The CBA Administrative Law Section is pleased to announce that Mark Mancini is the winner of the 2017 Paul Smith Memorial Award for his paper titled “Just a Pillowfight?: Standard of Review And Expertise in Constitutional Law."
Mark is a third year law student at the University of New Brunswick, Faculty of Law. Originally from Sudbury, Ontario, Mark graduated from Laurentian University in 2010 with a BA (Honours, cum laude) in Political Science and a Minor in Music. In law school, Mark worked for a summer with the Constitutional Law Branch of the Government of Ontario and will be clerking for Madam Justice Ann-Marie McDonald of the Federal Court of Canada starting in August 2017. In his spare time, Mark enjoys playing the saxophone, writing blog posts on constitutional law, and travelling.
The Section and the selection committee would like to thank all who submitted papers for the 2016/17 essay competition. The Section received 5 essays (3 in English, 2 in French), which were reviewed by a selection committee comprised of administrative law experts and a law student representative. Each paper was reviewed blind and content, readability and impact were considered in the evaluation.
