Do you also love nature, getting outside to enjoy the ocean, forest trails and mountains while still learning, earning and growing your legal career with a like-minded team?

If you answered yes, then this may be the opportunity for you.

Senior Family Lawyer

Our client’s passion for families has led to a thriving practice with so many referrals that she continually turns away business and this growth comes at a time when she’s considering a step back from her practice and looking at her succession planning options.

This presents a unique opportunity for a 5+ year Family Lawyer looking for a quicker path to partnership and practice ownership.

ABOUT OUR CLIENT:

Inspired by her values, our client has a boutique Family and Estate Law firm located 20 minutes north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. The founder is passionate about family and estate law. That passion has led to a thriving practice with so many referrals that she can’t keep up with the demand with her existing team.

The firm is built on doing exceptional work and getting optimal results for its clients. They value working smarter rather than harder; results rather than billable hours; strategically working the legal system rather than writing endless demand letters; and effective litigation should that be necessary. The offices are located mid-island on the ocean within walking distance of nature paths and cute restaurants. Balance between work and play is not just a written company value but embodied in the company culture and practiced by the whole team.

ABOUT THE JOB:

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  • Meeting with a backlog of potential clients to determine if they would be a good fit for the firm through active listening, empathy and understanding of their case.
  • Project management of a broad range of complex family and estate law files, including separation agreements, division of assets, spousal maintenance, and child custody, and will disputes from initial meeting through closing of their case.
  • Building strong relationships with clients by moving them forward to the agreed-upon outcomes, keeping them informed of progress and preparing them for the next steps to ensure quality client care.
  • Case preparation to ensure clients get the outcomes they want by strategically utilizing effective ADR and legal procedures under BC Family and Estate Law.
  • Trial strategy preparation and litigation should an ADR process not be effective or possible.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years experience as a Senior Family Lawyer managing simple through complex family law files and some Estate Dispute Resolution Files
  • A member of the B.C BAR and in good standing or willing to transfer from another Province or Territory
  • Litigation experience with a strong settlement focus and expertise in ADR
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong organization and follow-up skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple law files effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand the client’s needs and perspective
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge assumptions and develop strategic solutions to achieve better client results
  • Caring with a strong desire to make things better for families
  • A life-long learner with an improvement-seeking orientation
  • Appreciates balance between work and play and the beauty of nature
  • Ability to work in the office when meeting with clients and remotely when appropriate

WHAT YOU GET:

Our client offers a generous compensation package based on a revenue split model with extended health benefits, a generous health spending account, and moving expense assistance should the candidate need to move for the position
