The National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing substantive equality for all women in Canada through law reform, particularly at the federal level. Our work addresses many areas of women’s rights, including violence against women, reproductive justice, climate justice, and women’s economic empowerment. In 2024, we celebrate 50 years of feminist legal leadership. We are proud to have had a major role in achieving significant milestones for women’s rights, and for our advocacy to have impacted numerous laws and policies across the country. A key focus over the next two years will be to emphasize women's economic security and prosperity, and ensuring that policies account for the unique challenges faced by low-income women, racialized women, and those living with disabilities. 

Job summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Project Manager will work closely with all team members and take on a multi-faceted project management role that includes logistics coordination and administrative support.

This is a full-time contract with an anticipated start in the summer of 2024 and ending March 31st, 2026. Possibility of contract renewal subject to funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track project progress, manage schedules, and ensure that milestones are met on time.
  • Allocate resources efficiently, ensuring that team members are assigned tasks according to their skills and ensuring they have the resources they need.
  • Coordinate logistics for the project, including carrying out administrative tasks such as
    • Monitor project expenses, ensure the project stays within budget
    • Managing financial administration (including general bookkeeping, AR/AP, budget variance tracking and reporting, expense processing, etc. and developing budget projections)
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including tracking, plans, reports, and records of meetings and decisions.
    • Coordinate key meetings and consultations.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between the project team and stakeholders.
  • Identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk management plans to minimize impact on the project.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant discipline (law degree an asset)
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with proven track record in project management
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Experience with results-based management, theory of change, impact evaluation
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, in at least English or French (fluency in both languages an asset)
  • Proficiency in managing project budgets and resources (experience with Quick law, Dext, Plooto, an asset)
  • Experience with project management software (Notion an asset)
  • Expertise in at least one of NAWL’s priority areas an asset (violence against women, women’s rights in the climate crisis, reproductive justice, women’s economic prosperity and security)
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, an intersectional and feminist, gender-based analysis of social issues and anti-oppression values
  • Experience with SLACK an asset

Work environment and work conditions

  • As a feminist employer, NAWL offers a flexible work environment that allows for work/life balance, including a 4-day workweek.
  • This is a hybrid position. The successful candidate will be required to work from NAWL’s Ottawa office two days per week.
  • You may occasionally have to work outside of normal work hours (for example, evening meetings or events).

Compensation, vacations and benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $76, 000-$78, 000, based on qualifications and experience
  • Competitive paid vacation package, including 20 paid vacation days annually and an office closure the last week of the year
