Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent.

Since its inception in 1928, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) has governed the Métis within Alberta. The MNA is led by a democratically elected Council.  This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for Métis Albertans in governments’ policy and decision-making processes. The Opportunity

The Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) is recruiting for a full time Métis Justice Coordinator within the Justice Department. Reporting to the Director of Justice, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the development, coordination, and implementation of justice programs and services for Métis citizens. The successful candidate will be a motivated, confident, and driven individual who is passionate about justice and has excellent analytical and writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in Métis justice specific program planning, design, development, and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain templates and tools to guide justice programs.
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate justice related community engagement events and activities, including in-person presentations and discussions, and online engagements.
  • Develop MNA Justice department citizen engagement guidelines, policies, procedures, and program evaluations.
  • Develop and implement culturally sensitive surveys.
  • Capture information in a respectful manner during engagement sessions.
  • Report and analyze feedback and recommendations gathered from citizen engagements and develop justice related recommendations and policy advice for the MNA.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders on current and developing MNA justice program policy issues.
  • Maintain awareness of government policies and programs related to justice and provide briefing and recommendations to the MNA.
  • Support other MNA justice initiatives and complete other duties as required or assigned.

  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with tact and discretion.

  • Culturally sensitive, compassionate, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including government, industry, service providers, and community.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Forms.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field such as social work or criminal justice is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience with event coordination and/or program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization or remote Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Experience working in the justice field is an asset.
  • Training in Trauma-Informed Care or Indigenous Awareness Training are considered assets.
  • Grant writing experience is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, on occasion.
  • Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet project needs.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and operational vehicle.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening will be required.
  • Intervention Record Check required.
