Description

Thorsteinssons LLP is currently seeking a highly motivated commodity tax associate for our Vancouver office. Candidates with 1 to 2 years post-call experience or who have recently completed their articles are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will ideally have tax, corporate law or litigation experience and will thrive in an intellectually challenging environment which holds a unique opportunity for growth. This position will focus on Canadian sales tax issues (including GST/HST and provincial sales taxes) and real estate taxes.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist and support senior counsel in corporate-commercial commodity tax matters;
  • Advise on business transfers and corporate reorganizations from a commodity tax perspective; prepare legal opinions and compliance reviews; assist with GST/HST and Provincial audits and appeals, etc.;
  • Conduct detailed review and analysis of commodity tax issues;  
  • Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law;
  • Provide impeccable client service and complete research and memoranda to form legal opinions that assist our clients in making business decisions; and
  • Other routine tax matters.
